The Southern Group Story

The Southern Group was founded by Tommy Dobson in 1975 with the help of his wife, a Realtor, Sissy Dobson. Tommy is a native born Tennessee resident, a Georgia Tech Alumni, a retired professional bull rider, and a surveyor by trade. While working as a surveyor Tommy saw the vast potential of the land along the Cumberland Plateau where all of these communities are located.

The Southern Group is a family owned and operated business. Josh Dobson, Tommy's son, joined the family business after completing his college degree and has energized the company's direction. Travis Shields, Tommy's son-in-law, works with The Southern Group as their chief land surveyor. Because of their close tie to the land, The Southern Group pays close attention to preserving the pristine beauty of the land at the Cumberland Plateau.
